South Korean foreigner-only casino operator Grand Korea Leisure (GKL) has announced former journalist and politician Yoon Doo-hyun as its new President, for a term of three years.
The appointment was confirmed by GKL at an Extraordinary Shareholders Meeting, with Yoon set to replace former President and CEO Kim Young San who recently completed his three-year term.
Under South Korea’s Act on the Management of Public Institutions, the heads of public corporations are appointed by the President on the recommendation of the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
According to information filed by GKL, Yoon previously served as Senior Secretary for Public Relations for the Office of the President from 2014 to 2015 and was a member of the 21st National Assembly from 2000 to 2024.
GKL operates two casinos in Seoul and one in Busan under its Seven Luck brand. The company recently reported an 11.0% month-on-month decrease in casino sales to KRW30.5 billion (US$22.2 million) in October – its second straight month of substantial declines.
