Macau’s gaming industry generated gross gaming revenues of MOP$18.86 billion (US$2.36 billion) in April, up 1.7% compared with the same month last year. It was, however, 4.1% lower than in March, when GGR reached MOP$19.66 billion (US$2.45 billion) and represents the lowest monthly figure since January.
According to information from Macau’s Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau, GGR for the first four months of 2025 combined is up 0.8% year-on-year at MOP$76.5 billion (US$9.57 billion).
Macau’s gaming revenues have largely underwhelmed so far this year, with analysts pointing to the slow recovery of the base mass market and potential impact from a recent crackdown on illegal money exchange activities.
In recent comments made during a session of the Legislative Assembly, Secretary for Economy and Finance Tai Kin Ip also questioned the effectiveness of concessionaires’ diversification measures, adding that, “Macau’s major industries are facing increased competition in the international arena and the risks and challenges should not be ignored.”
The government had last year tipped monthly GGR to average around MOP$20 billion in 2025 but revenues through the first few months of the year have fallen short. It is, however, expected that GGR will show some steady improvement as the year progresses.
