Japanese conglomerate Konami reported a 19.7% year-on-year increase in group-wide revenues to JPY184.1 billion (US$1.21 billion) in the six months to 30 September 2024, although the Gaming & Systems segment declined by 2.6% to JPY18.6 billion (US$122 million).
Based on the company’s previously released financial results for the June 2024 quarter, revenue in Gaming & Systems fell by 14% sequentially in the September 2024 quarter to JPY8.6 billion (US$56.6 million).
Segment profit fell by 23.7% year-on-year to JPY2.4 billion (US$15.8 million).
In announcing its results for the six months to 30 September 2024, Konami said the North American and Australian markets remained robust, buoyed by the constant introduction of new products by competing slot machine manufacturers which had provided for new placement opportunities.
Australia had seen high performance from the company’s “K-pow! Pig” series and “Bull Rush”, it explained, although demand in Asia had normalized after experiencing an increase in sales due to the recovery of the Asian market from COVID-19 during the same period last year.
“In the gaming market, competitors are introducing new products successively, creating an environment that requires higher product appeal,” Konami said. “Under such circumstances, Konami will also enhance our brand value by developing our new game titles and system features.”
