Australia’s Star Entertainment Group has confirmed the appointment of Tourism Australia chairman Michael Issenberg as a non-executive director after receiving regulatory approval.
Originally announced as a new addition to Star’s Board of Directors in February, his official appointment comes amidst a period of upheaval for the casino giant following the recent departure of Managing Director and CEO Matt Bekier, Chairman John O’Neill and several senior executives in the wake of a recent review into the company’s suitability in NSW.
Bekier has since been replaced as Managing Director and CEO by former Tatts Group boss Robert Cooke.
Issenberg is expected to be one of a number of boardroom changes over the coming months. The tourism industry veteran brings more than 30 years’ experience in the hotel industry, having formerly been CEO of Mirvac Hotels.
He was appointed Chairman of Tourism Australia in October 2021.
