CHAIRMAN
Delta Corp
POWER SCORE: 646
POSITION LAST YEAR: 48
CLAIMS TO FAME
- On verge of owning casinos in the only three Indian states to allow them
- Perfectly positioned should Indian casino industry be given the green light
- Becoming established as India’s leader in online gaming space
While his offshore casinos in Goa remain closed, Delta Corp boss Jaydev Mody has managed to ease the pain thanks to his recent investments in India’s online gaming space, which continues to shine in the face of COVID-19.
That’s perhaps not surprising in a country where there are more than 600 million internet subscribers, up 54% in the past two years alone.
In July, Union Gaming analyst John DeCree stated that the value of Delta Corp’s online gaming business could exceed the current market cap of the entire company within the next two years. Delta Corp’s online gaming assets include online poker site Adda52.com, online rummy site Adda52rummy.com and online fantasy sports site LeagueAdda.com.
And despite the temporary pause to its floating casino operations in Goa, there is reason to be positive in the long-term ahead of anticipated legislation that would see those floating operations moved onto land – substantially growing capacity.
Meanwhile, the company was in the final throes of opening its first casino in Nepal at the Marriot Hotel, Kathmandu, before the pandemic struck. Expect to hear more on that front in 2021.
