Revenue from Macau’s mass market baccarat reached MOP$1.88 billion (US$235 million) in the three months to 30 September 2020, up 77.4% on the previous quarter according to figures published by the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau on Friday.
The improvement follows a recent easing of border restrictions between Macau and mainland China, with the Individual Visit Scheme reinstated for residents of Zhuhai from 12 August, for all of Guangdong Province from 26 August and the rest of China from 23 September.
Mass baccarat contributed 37.0% of gross gaming revenue for the quarter, increased from 31.9% in 2Q20 when mass baccarat GGR reached just MOP$1.06 billion (US$132.7 million).
Revenue from VIP baccarat grew 56.0% to MOP$2.34 billion compared with MOP$1.50 billion (US$187.8 million), with its share rising slightly from 45.3% to 46.1%.
Across all gaming activities, GGR for the third quarter of 2020 grew 53.0% compared with 2Q20 to MOP$5.08 billion (US$636.1 million), although it was still down 92.8% versus the MOP$71.0 billion (US$8.90 billion) in GGR Macau recorded in 3Q19.
