Suncity Group, the Hong Kong-based gaming operator currently looking to develop an integrated resort in Wakayama, has signed on as sponsor of the Japan SailGP Team and its Youth Academy, aiming to support sport in the prefecture.
The sponsorship will see Suncity assisting the Japan SailGP Team as it prepares for SailGP – a series of yacht races bringing together different countries and featuring F50 catamarans with similar specs compete at speeds exceeding 100 km/h. Season two of SailGP starts in April 2021 with a first prize of US$1 million.

Suncity will sponsor a strength academy for young people called “Japan SailGP Team U-20 Foiling Camp in Wakayama by Suncity Group.”
The company held a lecture on marine conservation activities at Wakayama Marina City, a candidate site for an IR, last weekend, which not only included various marine training activities but also engaged participants in beach cleaning.
Suncity Group’s philosophy is not only to develop an IR but also to convey the natural charm of Wakayama, said to be “the country of trees and water,” to the world.
The sponsorship aims to ensure the next generation of Wakayama athletes will play an active role in the world, leading to regional revitalization. Part of this is realizing Wakayama as a “Sailing Sanctuary” in partnership with the Japan SailGP Team.
Suncity has also signed an official sponsorship deal with Wakayama Trians basketball team.
