Genting Malaysia has extended the closure period of Resorts World Genting, as well as hotels and facilities at Resorts World Awana, Resorts World Kijal and Resorts World Langkawi, for a third time with gaming and hotel facilities now set to remain closed until at least 12 May.
The latest extension, coming after Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin declared the nation’s Movement Control Order would remain in place for a further two weeks, will take the total closure period, which began on 18 March, to 56 days. Yassin on Thursday added that further extension was likely although some restrictions may be eased as the nation’s infection rate starts to fall.
“Although the numbers have shown positive outcome, steps that we have been taking have to continue until a time when we are confident that the COVID-19 pandemic is completely under control,” Muhyiddin said.
“If COVID-19 cases continue to register significant decrease, the government might relax the movement control in stages in a few sectors, including the social sector.”
The closure of Resorts World Genting includes the casino, hotel facilities, food and beverage outlets, Skytropolis Indoor Theme Park, all entertainment facilities, attractions, shopping malls and retail outlets, although essential resort-based services such as security, utilities and clinics remain operational.
“Operations in our Resorts will resume upon the lifting of the Movement Control Order,” Genting Malaysia said.
