Melco Resorts Chairman and CEO Lawrence Ho has promised that both he and his entire executive team will move to Japan should the company win a Japanese IR license.
Ho has previously suggested he would consider relocating Melco’s corporate headquarters from Hong Kong to Japan if he proves successful, but he doubled down on that commitment during a presentation at the Japan Gaming Congress in Tokyo on Thursday.
“If we win a license to develop an integrated resort, I will personally move to Japan, my executive team will move to Japan and our head office will move to Japan,” Ho said.
His comments came one day after Melco provided a glimpse into its concept for an IR in Osaka, centered around a MICE space described by the company’s Vice President, Design (Japan), Pim Robberechts as “not just big but offering extraordinary experiences.”
The development, to be built on 49 hectares on Osaka’s Yumeshima Island, would also incorporate one of the largest Japanese gardens ever created, six hotels of around 1,000 rooms each including one specializing in health and healing, a water themed amusement park and in-built entertainment feature such as performers hanging from the roof.
