Macau saw a 32% spike in the number of infractions incurred by its much-maligned taxis in 2017, including an 86% increase in the number of drivers caught over-charging.
According to figures released by the Public Security Police Force this week, the number of Macau taxi infractions grew to 5,491 in 2017, up from 4,152 the previous year. They included 3,180 infractions for overcharging – almost double the 1,713 incidents recorded in 2016 – accounting for 58% of all infractions.
The number of drivers refusing to carry passengers also rose by 11% to 1,574, representing 29% of infractions.
