Benefiting from the easing of Macau’s border restrictions on 8 January, exports of casino products continue to rise, reaching MOP$112.7 million (US$14.0 million) in May, up 3,657% from just MOP$3.0 million (US$372,000) in May of 2022.
According to the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC), the total value of Macau’s exports in May was MOP$1.17 billion (US$145 million) while imports reached MOP$12.53 billion (US$1.55 billion), up 2.6% and 4.3% respectively. However, exports of casino products enjoyed a much greater rise.
Of the MOP$112.7 million in total export volume of casino products, MOP$111.8 million (US$13.9 million) was gaming machines and their parts, figures from the DSEC show.
From January to May of 2023 combined, exports of casino products amounted to MOP$300.4 million (US$37.2 million), an increase of 741% year-on-year, of which gaming machines and their parts comprised MOP$296.9 million (US$36.8 million).
