Japanese entertainment conglomerate Konami Holdings recorded a 12.0% year-on-year increase in revenue to JPY215.05 billion (US$1.87 billion) and 57.0% increase in profit to JPY42.38 billion (US$368.6 million) in the nine months to 31 December 2021.

The results followed gains across all business segments, although none more pronounced than in Konami’s Gaming & Systems segment which saw revenue soar by 58.9% to JPY18.68 billion (US$162.5 million). Pointing to the lifting of COVID-19 restrictions in its key North American market, the segment also returned a profit of JPY2.52 billion (US$21.9 million), reversing a loss of JPY1.49 billion (US$13.0 million) recorded in the previous period.

Konami said it plans to expand its product range further into North America and Australia over the next 12 months in order to enhance its presence in the market, while it is also introducing new functionality into its SYNKROS casino management system by way of a money laundering prevention feature and cashless wagering technology.

“Although the spread of COVID-19 could impact on our future business activities, the market is recovering gradually due to vaccine rollout,” Konami said.

“We are working hard to strengthen our product appeal and increase profitability to address the future demand recovery.”

By segment, the company reported a 6.4% revenue increase in its key Digital Entertainment segment to JPY153.96 billion (US$1.34 billion), 21.7% in its Amusement segment to JPY13.71 billion (US$119.2 million) and 18.4% in its Sports segment to JPY30.69 billion (US$266.9 million).
