The Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin has released details of its Management Committee and principal officials, with its official website also now live.

The news follows confirmation earlier this month that the Macau SAR and Guangdong Province will jointly govern the 106 square kilometers of land comprising Hengqin as part of a plan to deepen cooperation in order to facilitate the economic diversification of Macau.

According to today’s announcement, the Management Committee will be comprised of the Executive Committee and Secretariat, who will share the same office.

The Executive Committee, which is the statutory body that undertakes the economic and livelihood management functions of the In-Depth Cooperation Zone, replaces the previous Zhuhai Hengqin New Area Management Committee. It includes nine bureaus: the Administrative Affairs Bureau, Legal Affairs Bureau, Economic Development Bureau, Financial Development Bureau, Commercial Services Bureau, Finance Bureau, Statistics Bureau, Urban Planning & Construction Bureau and Livelihood Affairs Bureau.

Macau Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng, and Ma Xingrui, Deputy secretary of the CPC Guangdong Committee and Governor of Guangdong Province, are directors of the Management Committee while Cheong Weng Chon, Secretary for Administration and Justice of Macao SAR, is Executive Deputy Director.

Lei Wai Nong, Secretary for Economy and Finance of Macao SAR, has been named Director of the Executive Committee of the In-Depth Cooperation Zone.

The Executive Committee performs international promotion, investment attraction, industry introduction, land development, project construction, livelihood management and other related administrative and public service functions in accordance with the law and is responsible for the specific development and construction work of the In-Depth Cooperation Zone.
