The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) is set to launch an innovative Virtual Classroom aimed at bringing together professionals from across Asia as part of its Digital MBA for Global Leaders (DiMBA).

Taking the concept of virtual interaction to a whole new level, a kick-off class will be conducted at its virtual classroom on Saturday 18 September 2021 in which attendees will experience the advanced education technology on the trending topics of blockchain, cryptocurrency and fintech.

Being the first of its kind in Asia, HKUST’s Virtual Classroom is designed to ensure a much higher level of class participation than in fixed camera interactions. After logging in from their computers with camera and speaker on, students will have their faces projected onto a curved video wall to allow a more natural face-to-face conversation between all attendees. Equipped with new virtual learning tools like live polls, MCs, quizzes and the interactive whiteboard, students will be able to learn in a collaborative environment through group discussions, shared exercises and immerse in a brand-new and distinctive learning environment.

“The virtual classroom brings forward a new generation of education which allows students from anywhere in the world to connect and participate in a highly interactive session similar to that in a physical classroom,” says Professor Tai Yuan Chen, Associate Dean and MBA Program Director.

“HKUST DiMBA has a vision in mind to develop and nurture all-round professionals to thrive in tomorrow’s workplace and lead beyond boundaries. The virtual classroom is a major step forward for us to fulfill the mission, and we stand ready to bring in more distinctive elements and technologies to the program.”

The HKUST DiMBA was launched this year to provide a platform for senior professionals and executives to transform and lead in the digital era by mastering a broad range of skills via a blended learning mode, comprising 50% online self-paced study and 50% live virtual classes.

Assignments are conducted in the form of class discussions, case studies, presentations, team projects and virtual exams with those who graduate doing so with the skills necessary to become more effective leaders in the digital world we now inhabit.
