South Korean casino Kangwon Land has extended the closure of all gaming operations and entertainment facilities for another week, taking the current closure period to 22 days.
The closure, first announced on 23 February for an initial three-day period only to be extended three times since, is aimed at preventing the spread of COVID-19 with the number of confirmed cases across South Korea moving past 7,000 over the weekend.
On Friday, Kangwon Land – the only Korean casino at which locals are permitted to gamble – revealed it was again extending its closure for seven more days until 6am on Sunday 15 March. The property’s hotel, condominiums and ski resort will also remain closed while family theme park Water World will be closed until 20 March.
In a notice published on the company’s website Kangwon Land reiterated that the closures were designed to “put customer safety first.”
