Australian casino operator Star Entertainment Group has unveiled first design images of its new AU$400 million hotel and residential tower to be built alongside The Star Gold Coast.
The 53-storey tower, due to break ground in mid-2018, will feature 400 apartments and 300 hotel rooms and is set to lift the company’s total accommodation supply to 1,400 rooms as part of a multi-billion redevelopment of its Queensland properties. Other features will include a podium housing a range of food and beverage offerings, a retail mall, residents recreation deck, private dining areas, lounge, gymnasium and an infinity pool.
The Star will also complete construction of its new six-star hotel, which includes private VIP gaming rooms, in 2018.
Patrick Tsang, CEO of Star Entertainment Group’s Queensland partner Chow Tai Fook, told the Gold Coast Bulletin that the tower would become one of Australia’s most sought after addresses.
“The location and lifestyle on the Gold Coast, coupled with the existing world-class amenity on Broadbeach Island, are extremely attractive assets of the project,” he said.
Speaking to Inside Asian Gaming in an exclusive interview in August, Star Entertainment Group CEO Matt Bekier said the company was looking to provide Asian tourists with the “quintessential Australian experience” on the Gold Coast, which will compliment its AU$3 billion Queen’s Wharf Development in Brisbane.
“The Gold Coast is a fantastic opportunity, particularly when you consider tourism there,” he said. “When you think about what Asian tourists are looking for, it’s the quintessential Australian experience. Shopping is important, food is important, value for money and we have all of that on the Gold Coast.
“With Queen’s Wharf we’ll have a precinct with five hotels that will bring four million incremental visitors to Brisbane. What we’re doing with the Gold Coast is provide a companion piece to that. We see it as an to extend the trip – enjoy an urban experience in Brisbane and then the quintessential Australian beaches experience on the Gold Coast.”
