Visitor arrivals to Macau reached a new record monthly high of 4,219,034 in August, representing a year-on-year increase of 15.5%.
According to data from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC), mainland Chinese visitors constituted the largest group in August, rising 18.4% year-on-year to 3,257,874. Visitors from the Hong Kong SAR reached 681,740, up 2.8% year-on-year, while those from Taiwan reached 89,057, an increase of 21%.
International visitors totaled 190,363, representing a year-on-year increase of 17.3%. Within the Southeast Asian market, visitors from Thailand surged by 110% year-on-year to 13,417 while visitors from the Philippines increased by 9.1% to 38,389. Visitors from Japan also recorded a 57.2% increase, reaching 16,630. However, visitors from South Korea decreased by 4.7% to 35,177.
By arrival channel, the number of visitors arriving by land in August was 3,569,811, accounting for 84.6% of the total and representing a year-on-year increase of 19.5%. Arrivals by sea (372,096) and air (277,127) decreased by 2.8% and 2.0% respectively compared to the same period last year.
Visitor arrivals for same-day trips (2,553,316) and overnight stays (1,665,718) in August increased by 25.1% and 3.4% respectively compared with the same period last year.
For the first eight months of 2025 combined, total inbound visitor arrivals reached 26,895,940, representing a year-on-year increase of 15.0%.
