The tenure of Paulo Martins Chan as Director of the city’s gaming regulator, the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau, will extend to a fifth year after the government announced a one year extension.
According to the Official Gazette, Chan, who was originally appointed in December 2015, will begin a new 12-month term from 1 December 2019.
The newly extended tenure ensures Chan will welcome in Macau’s next Chief Executive, Ho Iat-seng, when he is sworn in on 20 December. The two are certain to work closely together over the coming 12 months with one of the most pressing issues facing Ho and his leadership team being the establishment of a framework for the re-tendering of Macau’s gaming licenses.
The licenses of Macau’s six current concessionaires all expire in 2022.
