Macau average hotel occupancy rate climbs to 95% during Chinese New Year

Macau’s hotels recorded an average occupancy rate of 95% during the eight-day Chinese New Year Golden Week holiday period, peaking at 97.8% on Saturday 1 February, according to information from the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO).

The figure exceeds the occupancy rate achieved during the most recent October Golden Week holiday, when hotel occupancy was 94.5%.

The MGTO said that the average room rate of the city’s hotel establishments during the recent CNY holiday was MOP$1,839, a slight 2.4% fall on rates during CNY 2024.

As reported by Inside Asian Gaming, the number of visitor arrivals across the eight-day Golden Week was 1,309,595, down 3.5% year-on-year, although Macau did reach a new post-COVID record for single-day visitation of 219,092 last Friday 31 January. This was also the second highest figure all-time since the start of single-day statistics in Macau, the MGTO explained.

The MGTO noted Wednesday that while total visitation declined – in part due to unfavorable year-on-year calendar comparisons – international arrivals grew by 10.2% to 58,000 or 7,300 per day.
