Macau welcomed a total of 1,309,595 visitors during this year’s eight-day Chinese New Year Golden Week, a decrease of about 3% compared to last year.
According to provisional figures released by the Public Security Police Force, the number of visitor arrivals on the last day of Golden Week on Tuesday was 137,283, an increase of about 9.8% compared to 125,029 on the last day of the 2024 CNY Golden Week.
However, the number of arrivals for the first seven days from 28 January to 3 February fell by 4.8% versus the same period in 2024 to 1,172,312. Among the arrivals, there were 891,598 mainland visitors, a decrease of 6% year-on-year, and 208,648 Hong Kong visitors, a decrease of 5.4% year-on-year.
The average number of arrivals each day was 163,699, however the city did manage to record the two highest single day visitor numbers since the COVID-19 pandemic, with 219,092 last Friday 31 January and 218,367 on Saturday 1 February.
Compared with the same period last year, the biggest drop was on the first day of the CNY Golden Week on Tuesday 28 January, when there were only 78,968 arrivals, a decrease of 34.9% compared with the same day last year. This was mainly due to the fact that Tuesday was Chinese New Year’s Eve, which is a traditional day for family reunion and therefore resulted in a reduced number of visitors.
