Preliminary data from Macau’s Public Security Police Force shows the city welcomed 34.93 million visitor arrivals in 2024, recovering to 88.6% of 2019 arrivals.

According to the data, mainland China accounted for around 70% of visitors in 2024 at 24.48 million, representing a year-on-year increase of 28.6%. Visitors from Hong Kong accounted for 20.6% of total visitor arrivals while international arrivals accounted for 6.9%, up 66% year-on-year.

In terms of total numbers, there were around 210 million arrivals and departures to Macau for the whole of 2024, representing an increase of 10.3% compared with the 190 million arrivals and departures in 2019, of which 36.3% were Macau residents.

Throughout 2024, the highest single-day for visitor arrivals was recorded on 12 February 2024, the third day of the Lunar New Year, when arrivals reached 217,541. This was also the second highest single-day figure ever recorded by the Macau SAR Government, with the record figure of 226,326 having taken place on 7 February 2019.

The highest single-day number of departures and arrivals in 2024 was recorded on 24 August 2024, when 753,580 trips were made.

In November, the State Council approved a “multiple-entry visa” for Hengqin residents and Residence Permit holders to visit Macau, and a “one-week entry visa” for Zhuhai residents to visit Macau. The policy came into effect as of Wednesday 1 January 2025 and is expected to further boost the number of visitors to Macau.
