Vigil: Wed 4 Dec 2024
Public memorial and funeral service: Thu 5 Dec 2024

I admire all individuals who have contributed to the world, regardless of their nationality, race, identity and status. I think that anyone who contributes to building a beautiful world should be our role model, and their actions should be honoured.

How not to fight with one another. How to help one another whenever someone is down. I want to remind society of how to do these simple things.

Dr. Lui Che Woo
9 August 1929 — 7 November 2024

My father was not just a revered patriotic entrepreneur and philanthropist; he was also my mentor and idol, whose perseverance and wisdom in the pursuit of success have served as my guiding lights. In his relentless quest for innovation and excellence, his pioneering spirit exemplified that true success extends beyond personal accomplishments; it lies especially in empowering others and making a meaningful and lasting impact on society. His legacy will continue to inspire many, especially the Lui family, as we uphold his admirable values and vision.
 – Francis Lui, Vice Chairman, Galaxy Entertainment Group

Dr. Lui was a highly respected entrepreneur and philanthropist, and we commend him for his significant contributions to the appropriate and diversified development of the Macau economy over the years. Dr. Lui Che Woo’s establishment of the LUI Che Woo Prize for World Civilisation demonstrates his strong belief in the spirit of love for mankind. I express my deepest condolences on the passing away of Dr. Lui and wish the family the best of luck.
– Ho Iat Seng, Chief Executive of Macau

Dr. Lui had been committed to contributing to society over the decades, and was awarded the Grand Bauhinia Medal in 2012. A successful entrepreneur, Dr. Lui had actively devoted himself in promoting philanthropic and education causes in the Mainland, Hong Kong and around the world over the years. He was particularly concerned with the education of young people and the development of technology. In 2015, Dr. Lui established the LUI Che Woo Prize for World Civilisation, an international award that commends the selfless contributions by individuals or organisations towards the development of the world civilisation. Dr. Lui commanded the high respect across different sectors of the community. I express sorrow over the passing of Dr. Lui and extend my deepest condolences to his family.
 – John Lee, Chief Executive of Hong Kong

On behalf of MGM China, I extend our deepest condolences to Dr. Lui Che Woo’s family, as well as to the teams of K. Wah Group and Galaxy Entertainment Group. Dr. Lui has been revered as a visionary leader, a passionate entrepreneur, and a prominent philanthropist – whose remarkable contributions, spanning business achievements and charitable endeavors, to Macau’s economic diversification and beyond have left a profound mark on societies. His enduring legacy will continue to be a beacon of inspiration, and will forever be remembered as a guiding force and an extraordinary contributor to communities.
– Pansy Ho, Chairperson and Executive Director, MGM China Holdings Limited

It is saddening to learn of the passing of Dr. Lui Che Woo. I convey my deepest sympathies to his family and friends. Dr. Lui was an esteemed and well-respected entrepreneur and visionary leader, as well as a philanthropist who gave generously. The businesses he built contributed significantly to economic development and social well-being, benefitting countless organizations and individuals. Dr. Lui‘s passing is a loss to the community and the industry.
– Lawrence Ho, Chairman and CEO, Melco Resorts and Entertainment

A founding father of modern Macau, it has been a privilege to see his incredible vision for Galaxy Entertainment become a reality over the past decades. He will be missed by all.
– Craig Billings, CEO, Linda Chen, President, and the team at Wynn Macau Limited

Dr. Lui played a vital role in diversifying the region’s economy, and his unwavering commitment to philanthropy demonstrates his dedication to fostering global sustainable development and enhancing the well-being of humanity. Sands China offers our sincerest condolences to Dr. Lui’s loved ones, and may they find solace in the enduring legacy of his remarkable achievements.
 – Wilfred Wong, Executive Vice Chairman, Sands China Ltd

Dr. Lui Che Woo will always be remembered for his entrepreneurial and charitable spirit. He led Galaxy Entertainment Group to become a prominent player in Macau’s integrated resort industry, contributing to the development of the SAR as a World Centre of Tourism and Leisure. He demonstrated the power of giving back to society by innumerable acts of generosity, including the founding of the Lui Che Woo Prize for World Civilisation, which will continue to inspire future generations. My colleagues at SJM Group join me in extending our deepest condolences to the Lui family and GEG team.
 – Daisy Ho, Chairman and Executive Director, SJM Holdings Limited

He was truly an inspiration for all, both in Macau and in Hong Kong. It was an honour to work closely with him in the development of the gaming industry in Macau. He always conducted himself in a very high class manner. We can all learn from him and he will be truly missed.
 – Allan Zeman, Non-Executive Chairman of Wynn Macau Limited and Chairman of Lan Kwai Fong Group

I was saddened to hear of the passing of Dr. Lui Che Woo, a man who not only reshaped our industry, but who inspired and provided opportunity for so many, myself included. Having worked for Dr. Lui in the very early days of Galaxy, I came to know him as an inspiration and a tireless leader, with a clear focus on an incredible vision. The opportunity Dr. Lui and his family provided me in those formative days of what is now one of the world’s leading integrated resorts brands, propelled me to ever greater success. I would not be where I am today without his generosity of spirit and his instilling in me a passion for excellence and a commitment to the values of integrity, respect and teamwork. I will forever be grateful. My wife Tess and I extend our condolences to the Lui family, friends and all those mourning this great loss.
 – Ciarán Carruthers, Outgoing CEO Crown Resorts and former senior executive Galaxy Entertainment Group

We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family of Dr. Lui Che Woo. His remarkable contributions and enduring impact on Macau’s gaming and hospitality industry will be remembered for generations. Vale, Dr. Lui Che Woo.
 – Hector Fernandez, Chief Executive Officer, Aristocrat Gaming

All of us at Light & Wonder extend our deepest condolences to the family and colleagues of Dr. Lui. A true entrepreneur, philanthropist, and visionary, Dr. Lui leaves behind a significant legacy within the Macau community and far beyond. He will be greatly missed.
 – Matt Wilson, President and CEO, Light & Wonder

Dr. Lui’s influence on Macau – and by extension the IR industry across Asia and the entire world – is demonstrated by the fact he created Galaxy Macau, which I would describe as the greatest single integrated resort on the planet. All of us in the IR industry owe him immense respect and gratitude. Without him, this industry would not have attained the level of professionalism it has. But his crowning achievement may well not be what he did, but how he did it. Dr. Lui exhibited a humbleness and a dignity possessed by very few billionaires. His philanthropic efforts were — and will continue to be — extraordinary. Lui Che Woo was a class act, and his family stands as testament to his dogged resilience, high intelligence, strong business acumen and calm decency.
