Macau Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng has expressed his deepest condolences on the passing of Dr Lui Che Woo, the founder and Chairman of Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG).
GEG announced late Monday that Dr Lui had passed away peacefully on 7 November at the age of 95.
In a media statement on Tuesday, the Chief Executive said he had written to the family to express his condolences.
“Dr Lui was a highly respected entrepreneur and philanthropist, and we commend him for his significant contributions to the appropriate and diversified development of the Macau economy over the years,” he said.
‘’Dr Lui Che Woo’s establishment of the Lui Che Woo Prize for World Civilisation demonstrates his strong belief in the spirit of love for mankind.
“[I express my] deepest condolences on the passing away of Dr Lui and wish the family the best of luck.”
The passing of Dr Lui means the Macau gaming industry has now lost three of its most central figures over the past few years following the passing of Dr Stanley Ho in May 2020 and Las Vegas Sands founder Sheldon Adelson in January 2021.
