The National Immigration Administration of the People’s Republic of China has announced multiple immigration and border control service policy measures, including an expansion of the policy areas for talent visa endorsements to and from Hong Kong and Macau.
From 5 November, the pilot implementation scope of the talent visa policy for travelling to and from Hong Kong and Macau will be expanded from its original coverage area (Beijing, Shanghai and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area) to encompass the entire Yangtze River Delta and Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei regions, as well as all national pilot free trade zones.
Outstanding talent, scientific researchers, cultural and educational professionals, healthcare personnel, legal experts and other qualified individuals working in these regions may apply for multiple-entry talent visas to Hong Kong or Macau, valid for periods ranging from one to five years. Each stay in Hong Kong or Macau shall not exceed 30 days and applications require supporting documentation from relevant talent authorities or eligible employers.
Additionally, the National Immigration Administration announced that Hengqin Port and the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge will become designated ports for the “240-hour visa-free transit policy” from 5 November.
This policy permits travelers from designated countries – currently covering 55 in total – holding valid international travel documents and confirmed through-tickets to enter via specified mainland China ports without prior visa application. They may remain within designated areas for up to 10 days.
