After a five-year hiatus, City of Dreams’ epic production House of Dancing Water held its premiere on Wednesday 7 May ahead of an official opening to the public on Friday.

The newly reimagined resident show is produced by Giuliano Peparini, Artistic Director of Peparini Studios, with a team of nearly 300 performers and crew members from over 30 countries.

Attendees of the premiere included Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference Ho Hau Wah, Secretary for Economy and Finance of the Macau SAR Government Tai Kin Yip, Deputy Director of the Publicity and Culture Department of the Central Government’s Liaison Office in the Macao SAR Bai Bing, and Chairman and CEO of Melco Resorts & Entertainment Lawrence Ho. There were also senior executives from across the Macau hospitality industry alongside A-List celebrities such as Korean actor and singer Rain and Golden Horse Award-winning actress Shu Qi.

The new storyline is a romantic love story and revolves around an outsider who accidentally breaks into a mysterious kingdom and rescues a princess who has been imprisoned by the Black Queen. Themes include the miracle of love and courage the story’s heroes who are connected by the word “water”.

The show is a mix of acrobatics, dance, stunt cars and diving.

The Dancing Water Theater has been completely renovated, with a 270-degree circular theatre, a state-of-the-art pool stage, a hydraulic lifting platform and a sophisticated lighting and sound system.

The show currently runs for almost two hours although Inside Asian Gaming understands there are plans to cut 10 to 15 minutes of runtime.

Speaking on the red carpet at Wednesday’s premiere, Ho said he hoped House of Dancing Water would promote Macau’s tourism and arts culture.

“This is not only an innovation in performing arts – we hope that through this aquatic arts extravaganza, we can promote the integration of Macau’s tourism and arts industries and let the world witness the infinite possibilities of Macau’s cultural tourism.”
