According to media reports in mainland China, Myanmar will soon hand over to Thailand around 7,000 people rescued from scam parks in northern Myanmar.
The Thai government announced in early February that it was cutting off electricity supplies to five areas in Myanmar along the Thai-Myanmar border, as well as internet services and fuel supplies, in an effort to crack down on the infamous scam centers that litter the region.
According to Chinese-state media outlet CCTV, Myanmar has handed over to Thailand 261 people who were rescued from the scam zones, escorted by the Thai military. These people came from more than 20 countries and regions, including mainland China, Taiwan, Southeast Asia and Africa.
CCTV quoted Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Phumtham Wechayachai as saying that Myanmar will continue to hand over about 7,000 people to Thailand in the near future.
Since the Thai government cut off power and networks to the Myanmar, more and more people have been rescued from Myanmar’s scam centers and sent to Thailand. However, according to Thai media reports, some areas have been using their own generators and attempting to utilize illegal methods to connect to the network using “starlink” equipment.
Affected areas where power supply has been cut off include the infamous Shwe Kokko, KK Park and Myawaddy.
