South Korea’s Kangwon Land has opened a newly renovated “Healthy Game Experience Zone” aimed at helping customers learn how to gamble responsibly.
The “Healthy Game Experience Zone” is located in a dedicated space adjacent to the casino entrance to increase accessibility and convenience, the company explained, providing education using actual game tables and slot machines.
A self-diagnosis kiosk for gambling problems (CPGI) has also been installed so that users can diagnose their own condition.
According to Kangwon Land, users who have received beginner prevention education at the Kangwon Land Mind Filling Center (KLACC) will receive a small gift when they visit the Healthy Game Experience Zone so they can use the casino after sufficient prior education. This, it added, is based on research results showing that proactively educating customers visiting casinos for the first time on how to use casinos correctly is effective in preventing gambling addiction.
Other safety measures implemented include connecting users who are at medium risk or higher through self-diagnosis tests consultations with KLACC professional counsellors, actively encouraging them to join the responsible gambling system, and strengthening cooperative system with government agencies by connecting users who show excessive risk signs with the Korea Gambling Problem Prevention and Treatment Center.
“The Healthy Gaming Experience Zone is a space that helps customers use casinos more healthily and responsibly,” said Acting CEO Choi Cheol-gyu. “We will continue to work to establish a healthy casino usage culture in the future.”
Kangwon Land, which is embarking on a US$128 million new casino development, recently launched a trial of a new “foreigner-only casino zone” aimed at establishing itself as an international casino-resort destination.
