Macau concessionaires Sands China and Wynn Macau have become 100% “smart” in their mass baccarat table operations, according to latest observations by Citigroup analysts.
According to a Monday note, this means Sands and Wynn become the third and fourth operators in Macau to do so, joining MGM China and Galaxy Entertainment Group in completing the rollout of smart tables across their casino floors.
Further inquiries by IAG confirmed that installation is indeed complete although not all of their newly smart tables are yet functional, with plans to bring them online gradually.
“We also saw 62 new smart tables at City of Dreams’ grind mass area and 63 at [SJM’s] Grand Lisboa,” said Citi analysts George Choi and Timothy Chau following their February Macau table game survey, pointing to the two concessionaires yet to complete smart table rollout.
“It is worth emphasizing that smart tables can help increase the speed of the game (more games can be dealt per hour) and this is one of the important drivers in our +7% FY25 Macau GGR growth forecast.”
Citi’s latest table survey also suggests that Wynn could be clawing back some market share in the premium mass segment, based on analyst observations.
“Although Sands (26% share) and Galaxy (24%) continue to lead in terms of total wager observed in our Premium Mass survey, it was Wynn (24%) which seems to have regained some significant market share (versus January) on our count, mainly reflecting the big whales that we witnessed on the day,” they wrote. “All three operators have Premium Mass rooms which rank atop in our Premium Mass survey in terms of average wager/player.”
Although Citi said it conducted its February survey on a day when players were just starting to enter Macau post their CNY family gatherings, the average wager observed per premium player of HK$26,224 still ranked as the bank’s fourth-highest on our record, while there was also a solid increase in the of whales seen with an average wager of HK$210,000.
“The CNY-25 survey results suggest that we will likely have a solid CNY Golden Week this year,” the analysts said.
