Thailand’s Transport Ministry has reportedly added Bangkok Port to the list of sites that could become home to an integrated casino resort, or entertainment complex as they are referred to locally, after being deemed a “viable casino site”.
According to The Bangkok Post, Deputy Transport Minister Manaporn Charoensri has directed the department to form a committee on the feasibility of developing an entertainment complex in areas such as ports, with a number of potential locations being considered.
Spoeaking with media, Deputy Prime Minister Suriya Jungrungreangkit specifically referred to Bangkok Port in the Klong Toey area as a site with “great potential” because it is of sufficient size, offers scenic river views and could have a yacht marina developed alongside as an accompanying facility.
With the draft entertainment complex bill having been approved by Cabinet and passed onto the House for review, Thailand is exploring the potential for up to five casino resorts being developed nationwide. Some reports have suggested that up to three of these could be located in Bangkok.
The bill also states that licensees will be granted an initial 30-year license term, reviewable every five years, and names 10 business types listed that can form part of Thailand’s “integrated entertainment venues” – Department store; Hotel; Restaurant, nightclub, discotheque, pub or bar; Stadium; Yacht and Cruising Club; Gaming; Swimming pool and water park; Amusement park; Area for promoting Thai culture and OTOP products; Other businesses as specified by the Policy Committee.
