According to Macau’s Financial Intelligence Office (GIF), there were a total of 3,837 Suspicious Transaction Reports (STRs) received from gaming concessionaires in 2024, representing an increase of approximately 11.8% over the 3,431 STRs received in 2023.
The total number of STRs received by GIF in 2024 was 5,245, an increase of 13.7% from 4,614 in 2023.
Of the STRs received in 2024, gaming concessionaires remained the primary source of reports at 73.2% although their share decreased slightly, by 1.2 percentage points, from the 74.4% of STRs it represented in 2023.
However, the share of financial industry whistleblower reports increased, from 19.2% in 2023 to 20.9%, an increase of 1.7 percentage points. There were 1,097 STRs in the finance industry in 2024, up 23.6% from 887 in 2023.
GIF said it reported 142 STRs to the Public Prosecutor’s Office in 2024.
Following the reopening of Macau’s international borders in January 2023, the number of STRs reported by gaming concessionaires has increased dramatically, from 1,215 in 2020, 1,330 in 2021 and 1,177 in 2022 to 3,431 in 2023, an increase of 158%.
