Galaxy Entertainment Group has announced the appointment of Francis Lui, the company’s long-time Vice Chairman, as new Chairman of the Board of Directors following the recent passing of his father and company founder, Dr Lui Che Woo.
In a statement, GEG said it was pleased that Lui had accepted the position, inheriting his father’s vision and continuing the company’s growth and success.
“I am truly grateful for the guidance and support of Dr Lui over the years,” Lui commented. “I will continue to work closely with the Board and all of our team members to realize Dr Lui’s vision for GEG becoming a world’s leading integrated tourism and leisure company, and to contribute to the development of the country.”
Dr Lui passed away on 7 November aged 95.
In announcing his son’s appointment as Chairman, GEG noted that Lui, 69, has been with the group since 1979 – long before it delved into the Macau gaming industry following liberalization in 2002 – and has been an executive director since 1987.
He holds a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering and a master of science degree in structural engineering from the University of California at Berkeley, USA; is a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference since the 11th election in 2008; a member of the Chief Executive Election Committee of the HKSAR; and a member of the Chief Executive Election Committee of Macau SAR. He is also Vice-Chair of the Council of the Macao Institute for Tourism Studies.
GEG recently reported an 11% year-on-year increase in net revenues to HK$10.7 billion (US$1.38 billion) in 3Q24, with GGR of HK$10.2 billion (US$1.31 billion).
