The funeral of Galaxy Entertainment Group Chairman and founder Dr Lui Che Woo will be held today, with more than 100 dignitaries from Macau and Hong Kong forming the funeral committee, including the former and current Chief Executives of Hong Kong and Macau.
Dr Lui’s funeral committee was announced Tuesday and will include former Hong Kong Chief Executives Tung Chee-hwa and Leung Chun-ying, as well as Macau’s first Chief Executive Edmund Ho Hau-wah, as the honorary directors of the committee.
Macau’s incumbent Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng, Hong Kong’s incumbent Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu, Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Hong Kong SAR Zheng Yanxiong, and Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macau SAR Zheng Xincong, will head the Funeral Committee.
There will be over 100 members of the funeral committee, including the Secretary for Administration of Hong Kong Chan Kwok-ki, the Financial Secretary of Hong Kong, Chan Hon Paul, the Secretary for Security of Macau, Wong Sio Chak, the Secretary for Economy and Finance, Lei Wai Nong, and other principal officials of Hong Kong and Macau.
Business figures such as Co-Chairman and Executive Director of SJM Holdings Timothy Fok, renowned Hong Kong entrepreneur Sir Ka-shing Li and Macau entrepreneur Ma Iao Lai are also part of the funeral committee.
Dr Lui’s funeral service will be held at the Hong Kong Funeral Parlour, with a funeral procession to follow on Thursday 5 December followed by interment at the Hong Kong Buddhist Cemetery.
Dr Lui passed away on 7 November at the age of 95, surrounded by his family. He is renowned as the founder of Galaxy Entertainment Group and K. Wah Group, with business interests in construction, real estate, hotels and gaming.
He also established the Lui Che Woo Prize for World Civilisation to promote the advancement of world civilization and to inspire the building of a more harmonious world.
