Macau’s average hotel room occupancy rate in October rose by 4.5 percentage points year-on-year to 87.3%, which was also an increase of 1.9 percentage points month-on-month but down slightly by 0.9 percentage points compared to October 2019.
According to the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC), at the end of October this year there were a total of 146 hotel establishments providing lodging services to the public, an increase of 9 year-on-year, while the number of available rooms decreased by 3.6% to 44,000 rooms.
Of October’s occupancy rates, the occupancy rate of five-star hotels was 89.7%, an increase of 4.5 percentage points year-on-year, while that of four-star hotels was 82.6% and that of three-star hotels 85.1%, representing year-on-year increases of 3.2 and 7.2 percentage points respectively.
The number of hotel guests decreased by 5.8% year-on-year to 1.2 million, although recovering to 99.9% of the same period of 2019. Mainland China accounted for the majority of hotel guests, with approximately 870,000 guests, a 3.9% year-on-year decrease.
The number of international guests increased by 19.3% year-on-year to 97,000, of which about 30,000 were from Korea, an increase of 51.2%. The number of guests from Malaysia (7,400), India (5,900), Singapore (5,900) and the United States (4,500) also increased by 25%, 42.6%, 3.4% and 3.5% respectively.
The average occupancy rate of hotel venues for the first 10 months of the year increased by 4.8 percentage points year-on-year to 85.6% and number of guests by 9.3% year-on-year to 12.1 million. The average length of stay remained unchanged at 1.7 nights.
In October 2024, the number of visitors using package tours increased by 14.2% year-on-year to 194,000. Mainland China tour visitors increased by 10.5% to 173,000, while international tour visitors increased by 56.5% to 19,000. There were 11,000 from Korea and 2,000 from India, up 120% and 150% respectively.
