Benefiting from the National Day Golden Week holiday, visitor arrivals to Macau in October this year totalled 3,135,358, up 13.7% year-on-year and a 24% increase over September. It also represented recovery to 97.7% of 2019 levels.
According to the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC), October’s visitor arrivals were dominated by visitation from mainland China, which increased by 16.1% year-on-year to 2,263,443. There were 590,930 visitors from Hong Kong, down 0.2% year-on-year, and 68,701 from Taiwan, up 28%.
Foreign visitor arrivals also rose significantly in October, totalling 212,284, up 31.2% year-on-year and recovering to 98.8% of the same month in 2019. Of those foreign arrivals, South Korea showed the most significant growth, with 47,069 arrivals representing an 83.5% year-on-year increase, while there were 38,924 arrivals from the Philippines, up 30.3%.
By channel, land arrivals increased by 14.4% year-on-year to 2,538,478 in October, while arrivals by sea (344,511) and air (252,369) increased by 2.9% and 23.5% year-on-year respectively.
For the first 10 months of 2024 combined, visitor arrivals grew by 28.1% to 29,056,272, with international visitor arrivals growing by 85% to 1,889,834.
These included 15,623,746 same-day visitors, an increase of 40.2%, and 13,432,526 overnight visitors, up 16.4%. The average length of stay of visitors was 1.2 days, shortened by 0.1 days year-on-year.
