The Macau Tourist Price Index for the third quarter of 2024 stood at 147.22, up 4.43% quarter-on-quarter and 4.29% year-on-year due to the increase in hotel prices during the summer holidays.
According to the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC), the increase included an uplift in the price index of miscellaneous items with the selling price of jewellery up by 13.68%, of clothing and footwear by 6.14%, of accommodation by 3.52% and of food and beverages by 3.52%. On the other hand, the price index for entertainment and cultural activities dropped by 13.33%.
The sequential increase in the Tourist Price Index was mainly attributable to the rebound in hotel room rates during the summer holidays, which drove up the price index for accommodation by 24.38% quarter-on-quarter, DSEC said.
The average Tourist Price Index for the latest four quarters ending in the third quarter of this year also increased by 8.86% over the previous period, with the price indices of accommodation, clothing and footwear, and miscellaneous items rising by 25.86%, 8.30% and 8.00% respectively, while the price index of recreational and cultural activities dropped by 7.42%.
For the first three quarters, the year-on-year increase in the price index for tourism was 3.90%, while the price indices for miscellaneous articles and clothing and footwear rose by 9.13% and 7.56% respectively. The decrease in the price index for entertainment and cultural activities was 14.51%.
