The number of weekly flight entitlements on flights between Incheon, South Korea and Manila, Philippines has increased from 20,000 to 30,000 after the two nations signed a new air services agreement.
According to a statement from the Philippines’ Department of Transportation, a new Memorandum of Understanding was signed last Thursday 4 July increasing weekly capacity between Incheon and Manila by 50%. This, it said, is “with a view to improving the air services relations of the two countries by updating capacity entitlements.
The MoU also maintains no limits on flights from Manila to all other points in Korea, or on flights from points outside Manila to all points in Korea.
In announcing the new MoU, the Department of Tourism noted that Korea has been the top tourism market of the Philippines since before the COVID-19 pandemic, and that the post-pandemic recovery of visitation from Korea is positively impacting the economy.
The total number of Korean tourists to the Philippines had reached 682,362 as of May 2024, the Department added.
“The increase in capacity will be felt by the market once airlines take advantage of the opportunity to carry more passenger traffic between the capital cities of the two countries,” it said.
