Macau GGR down 12% month-on-month to MOP$17.7 billion in June

Macau’s casino operators generated gross gaming revenue of MOP$17.7 billion (US$2.20 billion) in June, up 16.4% year-on-year but down 12.4% compared with the MOP$20.2 billion (US$2.52 billion) recorded in May, according to figures from the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ)

This was the lowest monthly GGR figure since November 2023 but was not unexpected, with analysts having warned in recent weeks that June’s revenue figures would be affected by seasonality given the traditional post-“May Day” holiday slowdown.

The impact of the UEFA Euro 2024 football tournament currently taking place in Germany, combined with a low VIP win rate in Macau’s casinos, have also been cited as reasons for a slow few weeks.

Despite this, GGR for the first six months of 2024 combined reached MOP$113.8 billion (US$14.1 billion), up 41.9% compared to the same period last year as the SAR’s steady recovery from the ravages of the COVID-19 pandemic continues.
