Philippine-based junket Dowinn Group says it plans to reopen all of its branches in Manila and Clark next Monday 24 June after shutting down operations this week due to what it describes as “unjust external attacks and slander”. The company did not detail who it is referring to in relation to the attacks.
As first reported by Inside Asian Gaming, Dowinn ceased activity across all of its casino and VIP Club operations and withdrew its managers this week, with sources claiming that many managers and cage staff have left the country and all liquidity dried up.
Operators IAG spoke to also said they were largely in the dark about why Dowinn Group had ceased its gaming activity and were waiting for more information.
However, IAG has since seen a document sent by unnamed Dowinn Group representatives to its operator partners in which it describes the closure as an an “emergency temporary cease of operation” to “protect the valuable interests of our customers and shareholders”.
“Over the past decade Dowinn Group has diligently fulfilled its responsibilities as a reputable company. We have adhered to all regulations set forth by the Philippine government and strived to earn the trust of our customers,” the letter states.
“Despite this, our operations have been disrupted by unjust external attacks and slander.”
Dowinn goes on to describe its “emergency temporary cease” as “an unavoidable measure aimed at minimizing the impact on our customers and ensuring the continued growth of our group.
“The situation has arisen due to the unjust defamation by external forces and we will pursue civil and criminal charges to hold those responsible accountable,” it states. “We have established a dedicated legal team to address this issue thoroughly.”
Dear Dowinn family, we are currently facing malicious attacks from external forces. Now is the time to unite and overcome this crisis, turn it into a greater opportunity for greater growth.”
Notably, Dowinn Group said it plans to resume normal operations at 2pm next Monday 24 June at all branches at Okada Manila, Solaire Resort Entertainment City, City of Dreams Manila, D’Heights Resort and Casino, Royce Hotel and Casino and Heritage Hotel and Casino.
“To our supportive government customers partners and Dowinn staff, let us transform this crisis into a chance for renewed strength,” it says. “Dowinn Group stands with you in overcoming this challenge.”
