The World Poker Tour has confirmed it is heading to Macau with its first ever Macau main tour stop, WPT Macau, to be held at Wynn Palace in Cotai from 18 to 24 June.
The landmark festival comes after WPT CEO Adam Pliska told Inside Asian Gaming in December that he was hoping to bring tournament poker back to Macau in the near future, while The Venetian Macao is currently hosting the SAR’s first official tournament in more than six years.
According to details released overnight, WPT Macau – being held in partnership with Allied Gaming & Entertainment (AGAE) and Wynn Macau – will feature a HK$40,000 (US$5,110) buy-in Main Event running from 20 to 24 June, plus a HK$200,000 (US$25,560) WPT High Roller from 19 to 20 June, among other side events.
“Macau has long been a sought-after destination for us, wanting to deliver the WPT experience to the region,” said Pliska. “Thank you to AGAE and Wynn Macau for helping us expand our global footprint. We look forward to an incredible event.”
Wynn Macau Ltd Vice Chairman and Executive Director, Linda Chen, added, “We are thrilled to partner with World Poker Tour to host one of the most prestigious global poker competitions in Macau, marking its debut in this vibrant city.
“The World Poker Tour invites legendary poker players from across the world which will enhance Macau’s global allure and reinforce its status as a World Centre of Tourism and Leisure. This exciting mega-event further demonstrates our commitment to deliver top-tier international entertainment events to Macau and is set to captivate a new wave of global visitors eager to experience the dynamism of our city.”
WPT Macau represents the first ever WPT event to be held in Asia’s gaming hub and becomes the region’s third main tour stop after WPT Australia and WPT Cambodia.
