Korea’s Mohegan INSPIRE Entertainment Resort has cleared the final hurdle to opening its foreigner-only casino after being granted a five-star hotel rating by the Korea Tourism Association.
In a statement, Mohegan said the rating followed a “rigorous assessment” under the Korean Hotel Rating System, with criteria spanning from facility quality, hygiene and exceptional service standards. A five-star rating is the highest possible under the Korean system and also means the company is now free to begin casino operations, having opened its three hotel towers, MICE facilities, most restaurants, an entertainment street and indoor water park on 30 November 2023.
While Mohegan did not reveal an exact opening date for the casino, it has previously outlined its hope to be up and running in time for next month’s Chinese New Year holiday.
“I am delighted that INSPIRE’s hotel facility has officially achieved a five-star rating, and I would like to thank our team for their hard work in all areas, including facility, hospitality and operations management,” said Mohegan INSPIRE President, Chen Si.
“What incredible momentum going into this first quarter celebrating the casino’s grand opening – that’s how Mohegan continually sets the standard for integrated resorts that create unforgettable experiences.”

Mohegan CEO Ray Pineault added, “This five-star rating for Mohegan INSPIRE is a testament to our relentless pursuit of excellence and our commitment to providing world-class experiences. This milestone reflects our team’s dedication to upholding the highest standards in the industry, and it reinforces our position as a leader in global entertainment and hospitality.”
The remaining facilities as part of Mohegan INSPIRE’s Phase 1A development are due to open by mid-2024, including INSPIRE Mall, an outdoor experiential space, an international food court, an immersive content exhibition hall and an indoor children’s playground.
