The Chairman of the France Macau Chamber of Commerce (FMCC) and Area Vice President – Macau Operations for Artyzen Hospitality Group, Rutger Verschuren, has been bestowed the title and rank of “Chevalier de I’Ordre National du Mérite” – or Knight of the National Order of Merit – by the President of the French Republic.
The honor – bestowed during a ceremony at Artyzen Grand Lapa’s Vasco Lounge – is in recognition of Verschuren’s continuous support to the establishment of friendly links between France and Macau and his pivotal role in fostering France-Macau economical exchanges by leading the France Macau Chamber of Commerce and serving its community, the FMCC said.
Dutch-born Verschuren boasts a career spanning nearly four decades in hospitality and business and has become a leading figure in Macau’s hospitality industry since first arriving in 2008.
In his role as Chairman of FMCC, which he has held since 2014, Verschuren has worked to strengthen the ties between France and Macau, including transformation of the former Macau France Business Association to the FMCC in 2017 and connecting it to an international network of French Chambers across the globe.
“The meaning of receiving this title and rank is much more than to honor me as a particular individual, but its true value is to praise the overall concept of giving back and doing good for the community we live in,” Verschuren said. “It reflects the collective spirit and dedication of our team at FMCC, an organization I am proud to lead.
“As a resident of Macau and as a senior company executive, it is only my duty to support the city’s and country’s vision to promote collaboration internationally, contribute to the development of our region, and encourage diversification to stimulate the economy.
“FMCC is a perfect platform to do even more than this. As Chairman of FMCC, my vision has always been very clear – to uplift the connection between Macau-China and France, and be creative in finding ways to build bridges in the best possible way and meet objectives set by FMCC as well as our governments. All of this with enjoyment and friendship among our members.”
