Macau’s Secretary for Economy and Finance, Lei Wai Nong, said the government expects the total number of visitor arrivals to the SAR this year to hit 28 million, having reached 25 million between January and November.
This follows official figures from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) showing the total number of visitor arrivals through October was 22,685,476.
Speaking with media at an event on Sunday, Lei noted that “in January this year, the daily average of international visitor arrivals to Macau was about 10% of the 2019 figure, while after August it had exceeded 70% of the 2019 figure.”
He also revealed that visitor arrivals from January to November this year exceeded 25 million.
“We are confident that we can reach 28 million for the whole year,” he said. Such a result would see Macau’s 2023 visitor arrivals reach around 74% of the record 39,406,181 who arrived in 2019.
In its November Policy Address, the Macau SAR Government said it would step up promotions to attract international visitors next year. Lei added, “Next year, the Macau SAR Government will focus on promoting tourism to Northeast Asia and Southeast Asia, in order to broaden the relevant visitor source markets.”
Attending the same event on Sunday was Wynn Macau Ltd’s President, Vice Chairman and Executive Director Linda Chen, who said, “The hotel occupancy rate in December is expected to be higher than that of November.
“Wynn will also organize a live tourism promotion during the Christmas season and will invite snooker stars to visit the pedestrian area of Rua da Felicidade to raise the public’s awareness of the old district.”
Wynn, which recently launched the “Rua da Felicidade Pedestrian Zone” as part of its commitment to help revitalize Macau, is hosting the first ever Macau Snooker Masters at Wynn Palace this month.
