Japanese gaming firm Konami has recorded a 3.7% year-on-year increase in revenue to JPY153.9 billion (US$1.03 billion) and 35.2% increase in profit attributable to owners of the parent to JPY26.8 billion (US$179 million) for the six months to 30 September 2023, buoyed by strength across all business segments including solid growth in Gaming & Systems.
According to information posted Friday, Konami’s Gaming & Systems segment saw revenue up by 11.6% to JPY19.1 billion (US$128 million), with business profit rising 55.7% to JPY3.12 billion (US$20.9 million). This, the company explained, followed steady growth in the North American and Australian market while in other regions, “the markets as a whole are also moving toward recovery, especially led by the Asian market.”
Konami said it has been expanding the presence of its DIMENSION cabinet series in North America and Australia including sales of DIMENSION 27 and DIMENSION 49.
The company also introduced to its casino management system “a variety of functionality which will enhance and strengthen our product appeal including ‘Money Klip’ which made cashless casinos possible.” Other features being introduced include mobile app “Konetic”, which Konami says streamlines operations at casino facilities, and “SYNK Vision” which identifies players using facial recognition technology.
“We aim to expand our market share by proceeding with the development of various functions that utilize cutting-edge technologies to meet the needs of our customers,” the company said.
Group-wide, Konami booked a 39.3% increase in revenue in its Amusement segment to JPY10.0 billion (US$66.9 million), a 6.0% increase in the Sports segment to JPY23.8 billion (US$159 million) and 0.6% decrease in the Digital Entertainment segment to JPY102.1 billion (US$684 million).
