The Macau border crossing of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge (HZMB) will soon operate a through-bus service to and from the Hong Kong Airport restricted area. Passengers traveling to Hong Kong Airport from the Macau border control point will be able to reach the restricted area of Hong Kong Airport without having to transfer or cross the border again.
After the opening of the restricted area, passengers taking buses to the Hong Kong Airport will only need to check in at the Macau Port and can then take the bus to without having to interchange or clear customs in Hong Kong. Buses will arrive at the restricted area of the Hong Kong Airport directly, eliminating a complicated and time-consuming transit between the airport and the Hong Kong Port.
There are now service counters for cross-boundary shuttle buses to Hong Kong International Airport at the Macau border control point, and a dedicated area for boarding services has also been set up.
Hong Kong Airport passenger service pointed out that the through bus has 36 seats, with an initial trial phase set to run for two months and expected to start imminently.
The adult fare for this service will be HK$250 (rising to HK$280 after the initial phase), however passengers can receive a HK$120 refund via Hong Kong airport departure tax procedures. Operating hours are from 7:30 am to 7:30 pm, with one bus leaving Hong Kong and one leaving Macau every hour. The journey will take around 45 minutes. After two months, the fare for a passenger will be restored to HK$280.
The Hong Kong Airport passenger service has also indicated that the second phase of the through-bus service may be extended to the early hours of the morning and the frequency will be increased to 15 minutes per hour. It is hoped this second phase will get underway before Christmas.
