SJM Holdings has announced the impending retirement of long-time director Ambrose So Shu Fai, who will step down from the company at the upcoming Annual General Meeting on 15 June.
Dr So, who serves as SJM’s Vice Chairman, Executive Director and CEO, will however remain as a director of the company’s Macau concession holding entity SJM Resorts.
In a statement, SJM said the Executive Committee of SJM Holdings, comprising Daisy Ho, Timothy Fok, Angela Leong and David Shum will “continue to oversee and be responsible for the implementation of the group’s strategic objectives and business operations following the grant to the company’s principal subsidiary, SJM Resorts, of a new 10-year concession by the Macau Government and the ramp-up of the group’s flagship integrated resort, Grand Lisboa Palace.
“The Board wishes to thank Dr. So for his valuable contribution during his long tenure of office as Vice-Chairman, Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of the company.”
A long-time, trusted lieutenant to Stanley Ho, Dr So spent nearly 48 years with SJM and its parent STDM, forging a reputation in his latter years as a valuable “peacemaker” between the various factions wrestling for control of the company after its founder fell ill in 2009 following a fall. Stanley Ho passed away in 2020.
