The Macau Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) issued information on Sunday revealing that the number of participants in MICE events in Macau during the March 2023 quarter reached nearly 200,000, with more than 15,000 business visitors attending meetings.
After Macau reopened to the public on January 8, MICE activities have gradually resumed. IPIM noted that a large corporate conference of more than 10,000 people was recently held.
“After three years, the organizers of the conference [in question] have again chosen Macau as the destination for their event and have increased the size of the event from 8,000 to 11,000 people,” IPIM said.
According to IPIM, Macau already has the hardware and facilities to meet the demand for conventions and exhibitions of all shapes and sizes, with more MICE venues due to open in the months and years ahead. Macau currently has more than 240,000 square meters of convention and exhibition space and 40,000 hotel rooms.
As per the Statistics and Census Service, 97 MICE events were held in Macau in the first quarter of 2022, with about 165,000 participants. Of these MICE events, 76 were classified as meetings with a total attendance of 6,157.
