The Director of the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO), Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, said Monday that cross-border transport concessions will be launched again from mid-April to June, and will be extended to foreign visitors.
This will apply to overseas visitors coming to Macau via Hong Kong.
“Hong Kong is an important transit point for foreign visitors to Macau, and we hope to attract more foreign visitors to Macau through our transportation services,” she explained.
The cross-border transportation concession scheme will see visitors who purchase a bus or ferry ticket from Hong Kong to Macau given their return ticket for free. The MGTO has already been providing this “two for one” offer to all Hong Kong visitors since 13 January, valid until the 31 March.
Senna Fernandes also said the MGTO will announce a subsidy scheme for foreign and Taiwanese tour groups.
Last week, MGTO Deputy Director Ricky Hoi pointed out that the number of Hong Kong visitors to Macau has recovered to 80% of pre-COVID levels, but the number of foreign visitors remains low with the MGTO to enhance its efforts in promoting Macau to foreign countries.
