Hong Kong Chief Executive John Lee visited Macau on Thursday, with his itinerary incorporating a visit to Galaxy Macau’s soon to open Galaxy International Convention Center (GICC).
Lee’s compatriot, Macau Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng, noted, “John Lee’s visit to Macau’s integrated tourism and leisure enterprises is a manifestation of Macau’s enhanced non-gaming elements.”
The two leaders met at Macau government headquarters where they discussed cooperation between Hong Kong and Macau at the government headquarters.
Lee was later accompanied by Macau’s Secretary for Security, Wong Sio Chak, in visiting GICC, where they were greeted by Galaxy Entertainment Group Vice Chairman Francis Lui.
GEG recently confirmed it would start progressively opening Galaxy Macau Phase 3 from 2Q23, including Galaxy Arena and Raffles at Galaxy Macau, while other facilities would open as the year progressed and based on market conditions at the time.
Lee commented afterwards that, “Tourism is an important industry in Hong Kong and Macau, and [the two SARs] have been working together to develop it.
“The [Macau] Chief Executive and I talked about the scope for cooperation in different areas, including promoting the development of tourism in both places and increasing the use of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge.”
Ho Iat Seng added, “The Hong Kong government delegation visited the convention and exhibition facilities of Macau’s integrated tourism and leisure enterprises before our meeting, which is a manifestation of Macau’s commitment to strengthen the development of non-gaming elements.
“With more quality convention and exhibition venues, Macau is in a better position to strengthen cooperation with neighboring cities such as Hong Kong to develop cultural, sports and MICE activities and broaden the source of overseas visitors.”
As part of its progressive opening, Galaxy Macau Phase 3 is set to host its first MICE event in April, followed by concerts K-Pop TREASURE and BLACKPINK’s world tour at Galaxy Arena.
