An employee of Macau’s Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ) has been arrested by the Judiciary Police (PJ) for allegedly operating a prostitution website and has been suspended from his duties at DICJ.
In September last year, the PJ arrested 19 individuals and 54 mainland Chinese women for allegedly operating a prostitution website back in 2009. The police continued to investigate the case and arrested two more men from Macau on Monday.
One of them, a 58-year-old local, is a civil servant who has worked for the DICJ for 30 years but is suspected of operating as a deputy administrator or moderator of the prostitution website.
According to the PJ, the website in question has been operating for more than 10 years in which time it has generated illegal profit of more than MOP$12 million (US$1.5 million).
The employee has subsequently been suspended from his duties, the DICJ said.
“The DICJ is highly concerned about the alleged breach of law by this employee and will handle the case in accordance with the law and punish him severely,” it said.
“We will open an internal disciplinary investigation and take precautionary suspension to hold the offender responsible in accordance with the law.”
