Resorts World Cruises (RWC), the new cruise line launched by Genting Group patriarch Lim Kok Thay last year following the collapse of Genting Hong Kong, has announced plans to start sailings out of Hong Kong using one of Genting Hong Kong’s former cruise ships.
Sailings out of Hong Kong will resume from March 10 with three cruises each week offering two or three-night itineraries, the company said Friday, and utilizing the former Explorer Dream, since rebranded as Resorts World One.
This is the second ship previously operated by Genting Hong Kong to have been leased back by RWC, with Genting Dream having begun sailings from Singapore and Malaysia in June 2022.
“We are pleased that Resorts World Cruises will have the first cruise ship to homeport in Hong Kong after the resumption of normal travel with the mainland and overseas,” said Lim, who is listed as Chairman of the new entity.
“We hope to support the growth of the Hong Kong tourism as we had done for both Singapore and Malaysia.”
RWC said the 983-room Resorts World One will initially replace Genting Dream in Singapore between 17 February and 1 March while the latter undergoes regular maintenance, with a special five-night sailing then planned from 3 March from Singapore, stopping at Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang before arriving in Hong Kong on 8 March.
“It’s been an exciting journey so far and we are looking forward to starting our next chapter in 2023 with the introduction of the Resorts World One cruise ship,” said RWC President Michael Goh.
“The ship will increase tourist arrivals and generate economic benefits to the hotels, transport, suppliers and other service sectors in Hong Kong. Resorts World One will berth at the Kai Tak Cruise Terminal, contributing revenue to the government owned facility.”
